MONTREAL, QUEBEC – OCTOBER 24 2020: One of the demands of the protest is to decolonize the police which they say means "investing in indigenous models of justice and empower indigenous communities to address all harms committed by indigenous peoples through these models [and] empower other oppressed communities, especially black communities to develop and run similar approaches to justice."  After being blocked from marching down Berri, protestors change course and head east towards the Plateau on October 24th 2020.  (Photo by Asia Mason/Dawson College Photojournalism Class)

In addition to the SPVM, the activist groups also called attention to the abuse of power within the RCMP. During this past spring in Northern Alberta, a dash cam video showed an RCMP officer stopping an outspoken chief of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Chief Allan Adam and violently tackling and arresting him because of an expired license plate. The incident was one of many intimidations tactics the RCMP has been alleged to use towards Indigenous communities without consequence.  (Photo by Asia Mason/Dawson College Photojournalism Class)
